AN HISTORIC Great Yarmouth bridge, which was repaired last week, broke down again this week, causing traffic chaos.
A fault caused the lights on Haven Bridge to become stuck on red meaning traffic could not get over the bridge and vehicles became jammed along Pasteur Road as far as the A12.
Engineers from the county council’s contractor Siemens attended shortly before 11am on Wednesday and police controlled the traffic.
The council closed the bridge last Wednesday night to carry our repairs to a lifting mechanism. However, the latest problem is believed to be unrelated.
The bridge, built in 1930, has had previous problems with failing to close after opening to allow boats through.
