The Healthy Gizmo's is the newest member of the Greenacre “family.” The new sporting youth club has a few Friday's left to run, in the playground or gym at Greenacre First, Middle and Nursery School.
The group is run by three Year 9 students from Great Yarmouth High School, Christopher Gibb, David De'ath, Joshua Parkes, and Daniel Gibb who is at Greenacre in Year 6. After pinpointing the need for a club in the area, the boys entered into a competition in association with The Wham Project and Norfolk PACT, to encourage children in Years 1-7 to play sport in a safe and friendly environment, helping to promote fitness and healthy eating. They will be judged on their efforts later this month and have been working on the project since March.
“Even though the weather was not kind to us we still had a very good number of children attending, together with very positive feedback and everybody willing to come again,” said Christopher, the group's leader.
School staff, chair of governors Ray Squires, acting head teacher Miss Roberts and Holly Notcutt from Comeunity Connections were thanked by the children.
Fruit and juice for the first session was supplied by Tesco, Great Yarmouth.
