The Market Gates Shopping Centre has organised a tasty event in its quest to locate what it called the ‘Poshest Palate in Great Yarmouth’.

Shoppers in the centre were invited to visit special tasting tables, each featuring foods supplied by retailers in the centre with cheese, meat, chutney and yogurt from Iceland, sweets from Mr Humbug and coffee from Starbucks.

It saw 185 shoppers take part in sampling the products displayed before being asked a simple question about the food or drink they had tasted.

At the end of the day, all the entries were checked and Heather Westrup proved to have the ‘poshest palate in Great Yarmouth’.

She was presented with her hamper prize filled with culinary delights supplied by Iceland and Wilko by Dee Greenwood, deputy centre manager.

Mrs Greenwood said: “Many of our shops, stores and cafes keep their food offer interesting by introducing new foods and recipes which they are keen to introduce to the public.

“The Taste Test Challenge was a great way for shoppers to discover these new delights while, at the same time, pit their palates in a fun competition.”
