A SUSPECTED fire in a helicopter luggage department triggered a massive response involving firefighters from across Norfolk and Suffolk to an airfield in Great Yarmouth.
Fire crews from Yarmouth, Acle, Martham, Gorleston, Lowestoft, Beccles, Hethersett and Norwich were sent to North Denes airfield shortly after 2pm today.
The CHC flight was transporting workers to an oil rig in the North Sea when it was forced to turn back after a light flashed on the pilot's dashboard warning of the fire while the helicopter was 30 miles out to sea, but the incident proved to be a false alarm.
