A PLACE in the record books could be written with the world's largest gathering of the Where's Wally book character in Great Yarmouth - and it's still not too late to take part.
With just three days to go, organisers are making sure everything is place for Bank Wally Day Monday with participants able register on the day using the coupon in today's Mercury.
Hopes of success are high, with some 900 people having Wally outfits from the previous record attempt last October, and a further 1,000 new costumes ordered.
Last year's attempt was foiled by the number of costumes purchased ahead of the event by people who did not turn out on the day, denying those that did the opportunity to get hold of the distinctive red and white shirt and bobble hats.
Monday's record bid has attracted a lot of interest over the last few weeks and town centre manager Jonathan Newman is confident the current Guinness world record of 1052 can be beaten.
He said: “We have had people from all over the country register to take part, many of them pre-ordering the Wally costumes that we have had specially manufactured for the attempt.

“We are planning to have enough costumes available to people turning up on the day, and with the costumes being sold at the cost price of just �6, we are asking everyone taking part for a registration fee of �1 which is being donated to charity.”
As a thank you for taking part, supporters Boots the Chemist are preparing goody bags filled with free gifts and special offers.
A number of businesses and attractions around the town are also planning to put on special offers for people dressed as Wally.
The world record attempt takes place at 1pm in the Market Place with entertainment and competitions from 11am.
Registration and costume sales start 10am a fee of �1 per is being split between two charities; Macmillan Cancer Support and the Have a Heart appeal which supports local children's charities.
The attempt is being supported Heart FM.
