The man who holds the post of High Steward of Great Yarmouth – an ancient title dating back to 1529, will talk about his role in the town.

Henry Cator will speak to the Civic Society of Great Yarmouth on Tuesday, April 10, at 7.30pm at Christchurch in King Street.

The talk is open to all and will cost £3.

Mr Cator accepted the office in October 2013, eight months after the death of his predecessor Michael Falcon at the age of 85, who had held the post for 28 years.

The post of High Steward was originally a judicial office that carried considerable local powers, but has become a ceremonial role held for life. Previous High Stewards include John Dudley, Duke of Northumberland and Lord High Chamberlain (1552), and former Prime Minister Sir Robert Walpole (1745).

People also have the chance to join the civic society until the end of the financial year at the end of June for £5. On Wednesday, April 11 there is a special conducted walk around the Town Walls, starting at 11am and meeting outside the Minster. The cost is £3.50.
