The Bishop of Thetford, the Rt Rev David Atkinson, marked the completion of the scheme at the 34-pupil Church of England school, watched by past pupils and invited guests including MP Norman Lamb.
The building work, which was started last Easter, has given the school a two-classroom extension linked to the existing Victorian building by a covered walkway. The old school, built in 1862, has been completely refurbished and remodelled to provide a new entrance, resources room, a larger hall, new staff room and a library for the first time.
Peter Wallis, who has been head for two years, said: “The teachers know all the pupils and their families quite intimately and that makes it comfortable and easy for the youngsters.”
Others attending the assembly included Janet Prime, a former caretaker of 18 years, George Mitchell, who had been a pupil in the 1930s, and previous headteacher, Ann Brown.
Greeting the Bishop was seven-year-old George Mayhew, who designed the school's new boat logo that was launched on the day.
