COUPLES will soon be able to say “I do” overlooking Great Yarmouth's Golden Mile.

The viewing platform at the Atlantis Arena on Marine Parade is to be transformed into a chapel of love - revamped and licensed to hold wedding ceremonies next year.

It is just one of a number of changes happening at the seafront venue as new manager Nearchos Agathokleous, known as Chico, explained this week.

The nightclub, four-storey hotel and tower are all set to be refurbished in a two-year scheme costing hundreds of thousands of pounds, tipped to return the venue to its former glory.

The Arena nightclub is set to be divided into three rooms - one which will be available to hire for wedding receptions - while other rooms will receive a makeover featuring new lighting and furniture. The club and tower will also be renamed.

Chico said: “We want to give the place the wow factor. We are looking to attract business people who want a nice place to go out for a relaxing evening.”

Later this month the venue will begin hosting wrestling events every Sunday and shows aimed at holidaymakers and locals will hit the stage on Wednesday evenings.

And it will also host ballroom dancing lessons later this year - on the back of the popular BBC show Strictly Come Dancing.

Last week architects visited the 66-room hotel at the Atlantis Arena in preparation for a major revamp project expected to start in November.

Chico said: “All rooms in the hotel will be en-suite and we intend to have separate themes on each floor. The structure of the hotel is sound but it does not a lot of cosmetic work and we will also be making some rooms bigger.”

The new manager, who has been in post for nine weeks, says the changes will give Yarmouth an upmarket venue.

“I think the town needs something different like this. There is a lot of changes happening in Yarmouth such as the outer harbour which will hopefully bring more people to the area.”
