Over 3,000 fish have died in the River Bure as a result of high tides.
Recent high tides have caused saltwater to enter the river which has led to thousands of fish dying.
A spokesperson for the environment agency, said: “We were called to reports of a fish kill at Acle dyke on Saturday. Our staff have attended the scene to monitor salinity levels and assess the impact of the incident.
“Salinity levels have now dropped and there are not expected to be any more fish deaths at this time.”
Saline incursions are a naturally occurring event from early Autumn. Surface water increases the salinity before the freshwater fish have a chance to migrate upstream for the winter.
The spokesperson added: “We are currently working with partners to develop potential solutions for saline incursions by installing barriers at different locations and designing them so they can be deployed by volunteers.”
