High tides predicted later this month are not expected to trigger even the lowest level of flood warning alert, the Environment Agency said this week.
High pressure and favourable weather conditions look set to keep a lid on surges due in the morning on September 18, 21 and 22 and in the morning and evening on 19 and 20.
A spokesman said: “We have had had some flood watches this week because it has been low pressure. The astronomical tides predicted are high-ish but we would need a surge of weather on top of that to cause any problems and with high pressure coming we are not expecting there to be any problems.
“Astronomical tides can be seen a long way ahead and we would look for anything to affect that like weather and pressure or a combination of both which can lead to tides overtopping flood defences. As it is, we are not expecting it to reach the lowest level of warning.”
