Young violinists from Hillside Primary School added another string to their bow with four groups of 20 awarded a Merit for their performances in the 39th Gorleston St Andrew Competitive Festival.

They played in two classes and the adjudicator, Margaret Lamb, was said to be very impressed by the large numbers taking part - all children in Years 3 and 4 at Hillside Primary learn the violin as part of the Widening Opportunities Scheme.

Another 15 children - in three groups - took part in the Keyboard Ensemble class. Everyone enjoyed the performances and the adjudicator, Gary Sieling was enthusiastic in his praise and awarded them all a Distinction.

Headteacher Mrs Bryant thanked Mrs Rust music co-ordinator at Hillside, Mrs Saxby, violin teacher and Mrs Harrison, keyboard teacher who organised taking part in the music festival.
