It was an opening ceremony fit for Hollywood royalty.

So it was only right that Marilyn Monroe cut the ribbon at Great Yarmouth’s newly renamed Hollywood Royalty Cinema.

The lookalike joined entertainer Olly Day, the cinema’s director Trevor Wicks and invited guests to mark the recently refurbished picture house.

A five figure sum has been invested in renovating the historic building, renewing nearly all of the 800 seats in the five-screen movie complex and adding what is thought to be one of the biggest screens in East Anglia to it.

At 70ft wide and as big as a double decker bus it aims to bring a true big screen cinema experience to loyal audiences who will also benefit from more leg room.

Along with the changes there is also a partial re-brand, the former Hollywood Cinema in Marine Parade is paying homage to its history and long-standing contribution to the resort in different roles.
