HAVE you ever wanted to have your work on permanent display in a museum? Well now's your chance with Time and Tide museum's Read Herrings poetry competition.
HAVE you ever wanted to have your work on permanent display in a museum? Well now's your chance with Time and Tide museum's Read Herrings poetry competition.
All you have to do is write a short poem about the humble herring, and send it in to the museum by National Poetry Day on October 8. It's a great opportunity for local people to make a contribution to their museum.
Perhaps your memories of the herring fishing industry would make a great rhyme? Or does eating herring get your creative juices flowing? Whatever your angle, there's loads of herring heritage in Yarmouth to give you some inspiration.
The winner will have their poem reproduced on the new text panel for the iconic Yarmouth Bloater king sign to be unveiled at the Time and Tide's annual Herring Day on Sunday, October 18. Entries will be judged by published Norfolk based poet Esther Morgan.
Runners up will have their poems read out loud at the fun-packed annual event. Visitors can celebrate Yarmouth's connection with the herring with a day of music, magic, games, stories, activities and demonstrations, all with a herring theme.
Send your read herring entries to Jonathan Tooke, Events Coordinator, Time and Tide, 16 Blackfriars Road, Great Yarmouth Norfolk NR30 3BX. You can also email it to: jonathan.tooke@norfolk.gov.uk
