A RENEWED bid to build a house and subdivide another in Bells Road, Gorleston, looks set to be turned down by planners.

Gilarwest Developments withdraw an earlier scheme for two dwellings behind 23 to 25 Bells Road in September last year.

But although planning officers admit the revised scheme has taken into account the concerns of neighbours they maintain the plan goes against a string of policies about density, parking and the character of the area and are recommending refusal.

The plan has triggered five letters of objection from neighbours in Bells Road who say the busy street has already suffered its fair share of infill development, adding to traffic and parking problems.

One objector tagged the scheme “sure madness” adding that over the 40 years he had lived there the space around him had been gradually chipped away.

Another opponent wrote: “All brown field sites in this area have now been fully developed. I feel now this is saturation development with no regard to the residents living in this area. Old and unused commercial premises I can understand but to keep building in what are people's gardens I am totally against.”

The proposal involves building in a gap between 23 and 25 Bells Road and dividing number 23 vertically to form two dwellings.

An application for five terraced houses and two flats behind homes on the opposite side of the road was recently refused because of concerns over density and the effect on neighbours.

The development control committee meets at 6pm on Tuesday at Yarmouth Town Hall to discuss the plan.
