A VILLAGE is to get extra bus services, parish councillors heard at their meeting last week.

The Anglian Bus services 602 and 608 come into immediate effect and will pick up and drop at the Lowestoft Road bus stop, opposite the main entrance to the village. The service is in addition to the X1, 1 and 1A services already provided.

Councillors thanked resident John Farrant for arranging the bus extensions into Hopton.

In his police report, PCSO Dave Nickerson said there had been 36 calls from Hopton during March, which resulted in five crimes. KIN priorities for Hopton are parking and speeding along Coast Road near the school.

The speed gun will continue to be used on Coast Road and it may be possible for the community speed watch volunteers to check in the area of Potters Drive and Noel Close which seems to be causing a problem for some residents. More volunteers are needed and full training can be provided.

PCSO Nickerson will keep an eye on the area and also advise children not to climb on the bottle banks on the Lowestoft Road.

In other matters, the next volunteers meeting for St Margaret's Ruins is tomorrow, Saturday, 10am in the village hall; following a meeting with GYB Services, the two litter bins removed from the village have been re-sited at the entrance to Seafields Drive and halfway down Cumby Way towards Station Road.

An additional litter bin will be installed in the play area at the same time as the equipment; and there is continued vandalism of the bus timetable and phone box.

Hopton Coastal Action Group has sent a letter to Peter Hardy of GYBC raising several points following the Outer Harbour Report. No response has been received to date; re the Mercury report regarding proposed development in Hopton behind the Post Office. The Parish Council will voice strong objections, on behalf of residents, to any further development in the village should a planning application be made in the future. There is no immediate threat. No further development in the village was a top priority as outlined in the Hopton Parish Plan 2008-2018.

County Councillor Gerry Cook advised the footpath/cycleway between Hopton and Gorleston is expected to be completed by mid July, with a welcome party week beginning July 19, date to be confirmed.

The next meeting is on May 10 at 7pm at the village hall - the annual parish council meeting followed by the annual parish meeting.
