A BASEBALL cap-clad rapper spits rhymes in the studio, laying down honest lyrics about how he sees the world.

But this is not a south London sink estate, there are no drugs and guns and the sea breeze fills the air.

For leafy Hopton is the place where talented rapper Aidan Wright, 15, is trying to carve out a career in the music industry.

And though the odds seem stacked against him - and he thinks he is the village’s only rapper - his tracks have proved an internet hit, and his future looks promising.

Aidan - who records his music as A-Don - said: “It’s difficult to push out your music from Hopton, but I used to always listen to Eminem from a young age and got inspiration.”

The Cliff Park High School student says he first took an interest in rap when he was 14, and has always had an ear for music.

And while he lives in a semi-detached house with his mum Amanda and her six cats, he records ideas about the wider world in his room.

“I used to play the guitar and sing and liked musicals at school,” revealed Aidan.

“My inspiration is just everyday life - government and politics, the things that mean the most to me.”

He added his family have been supportive of him, though they did not understand rap music to begin with.

“My mum understands it now,” said Aidan, of Old Church Road. “She’s honest with me, and at first she said ‘you’re not very good’ but as I was progressing I got more into it.

“I’m just the only rapper in Hopton.”

His journey in rap began when a friend took him to a Norwich recording studio, in Motum Road, in January 2011.

He released a nine-track mix CD last year - called A-Don Presents Take Off 2011 - and sold all 100 copies.

And he has performed gigs at the Forum in Norwich, aired on the radio and got more than 65,000 video views on his Youtube web page.

He says songwriting is beginning to come more naturally to him, and hopes to hone his art on an Access To Music course once he has finished his GCSE exams.

His work is becoming more ambitious, and he records with artists across Norfolk - including Attleborough and Eaton - who form the East Coast All Stars.

And while he concedes Hopton is not the easiest place from which to launch a career as a rapper, he says it has helped shape who he is.

“I probably wouldn’t be doing what I am without this background,” said Aidan. “Everyone’s been really supportive of me.”

Aidan is currently looking to perform at more gigs.
