THIS was the scene of devastation earlier today after police cordoned off part of Main Cross Road in Great Yarmouth in the aftermath of a collision which left the road strewn with debris and one man in hospital.
The male driver of the flat bed truck, pictured, was taken to James Paget University Hospital after complaining of back pain following the accident with an International Road Ferry lorry near the port at midday which almost completely ripped off the front bumper of his vehicle, smashed the front grill exposing the engine components and left the right wing mirror dangling off its hinges.
But despite the extent of the damage, witnesses said the truck driver was still able to walk away from his cab before ambulance crews decided to take him to hospital.
The lorry jacknifed in Admiralty Road and the cab collided with the wall of a derelict warehouse formerly belonging to Leopard Drilling Services causing dents and cracks in the brickwork, but the driver, who is believed to be eastern European, was not injured.
Liz Howard, office administrator at Hy-Tek Engineering in Main Cross Road, described hearing a bang that sounded like a bomb exploding.
She said staff from her firm went out to see if the driver was alright.
