Horse Racing Club launch at Yarmouth

THE launch of a new horse racing club primarily, but not exclusively, for Norfolk racing enthusiasts will be officially launched at Great Yarmouth Racecourse on May 21.

Norfolk Racing Club, which will be administered by Barry Root, current Manager of Essex Racing Club, will be offering Membership for �149 for the remainder of 2010 when it opens to the public at next Friday's race meeting. Optional Ownership Shares in the club horses will also be available.

Members will have an interest in three racehorses which are currently in training at Newmarket with trainers Stuart Williams and Jeff Pearce, and will be entitled to a share of prize money won by the horses. They will also be able to attend racecourses such as Great Yarmouth and Newmarket as well as others around the country when the horses race with free admission or at discounted ticket prices.

There will be a regular report issued to members with details of the horses' progress, races planned and results as well as a number of social events which will be held during the year. These start with a visit to trainer Jeff Pearce's stables at Newmarket, followed by a lunch in town and afternoon racing at the Rowley Mile Course, Newmarket on May 29.

“Norfolk racing enthusiasts have a limited choice of local low-cost clubs and racing syndicates at present, and we felt now was a good time to launch the new club, which will stand alongside the existing Essex Racing Club which I currently manage,” said Manager Barry Root.

Wymondham-based businesswoman and racehorse owner Michelle Fernandes was over the moon at the news of the new club. She said: “This is something we really need in Norfolk. I know that the manager's existing Essex Racing Club works very well and I have every confidence the new club will be a great hit with local people, especially the regulars who attend Yarmouth.”
