The organisers of a major horse show in Yarmouth on July 19 confirmed last night that it is still going ahead after someone sabotaged their website to say it had been cancelled.

Yarmouth and District Riding Club had to issue the message that its Summer championships at the Humberstone Farm Equestrian Centre was still taking place after a hacker broke into www.freewebs.com/gydrc

The hacker changed the website sometime between Sunday night and yesterday so that it wrongly read that all the club's riding events for the rest of the year had been postponed.

The erroneous message, which was still on the internet site last night, read: “Due to problems within the club the committee had decided to cancel all remaining shows for the rest of the 2009 season.

“Thank you to all competitors for support and wish you luck for the future. Thank you. The committee.

Following the internet attack the club has been frantically trying to tell everyone involved in the show, which should have 200 participants, that it is going ahead as normal. The club is also going to inform the police about the hacking incident.

Club publicity officer Ella Crickmore said: “I am absolutely gutted and feel quite violated that our website had been hacked into.”

While the Yarmouth and District Riding Club website is still displaying the false information people can visit www.horsedates.co.uk or www.humberstonefarm.co.uk to find out the correct details of the July show.

The club can also be contacted on 07796263627.
