A GREAT Yarmouth hostel for homeless people could be given the go ahead for a 3m re-development to provide a two storey rear extension.

Yarmouth Borough Council officers have recommended the plans for Bauleah House in St Nicholas Road be approved by councillors attending the next meeting of the council's development control committee on Tuesday.

Herring House Trust, which owns the building, plans to demolish the rear of the hostel to make way for the new extension, although the Grade II listed part of the building, which dates back to 1894, will not be touched.

New training rooms will also be developed with the aim to get the hostel's residents back on the path to work or training, while the overall number of bedrooms will increase from 26 to 31.
