Calls have been made to install CCTV at the Edgar Tennant Recreation Ground in Station Road where anti-social behaviour has been a problem.

But a crime prevention survey report by Dick Wolsey of Norfolk Police suggests cameras may not be the answer.

Summarising the report at Ormesby with Scratby Parish Council Christine Lee said there were “layers of protection” that could be considered first including lowering the hedge and better signage.

There was also an issue with the position of the camera and the quality of lighting.

He said: “We always joke about the playing field being the black hole of Ormesby. We have shovelled money into the playing field.

“If we knocked that Pavilion down it would be the cheaper option.”

Mrs Lee added: “What has happened in the past has not been substantiated by the constabulary other than to say it is ‘minor and annoying’ vandalism.

“Everyone on the council understands the need to protect that building.

“Is this a proportionate and appropriate us of resources? I say absolutely not.”

The council resolved to look at the issue in greater detail.
