TWO of the most popular players to pull on the famous yellow and green shirts were at Carrow Road on Saturday to help kick off the Norwich City v Ipswich Town legends match at Great Yarmouth football club.

The match at Wellesley Road on Sunday, April 18 between an all star line up of ex Norwich and Ipswich player, is being arranged by former Canaries' star Dale Gordon.

Gordon was joined by another all time City great, Darren Huckerby, to promote the match at the Canaries' Boxing Day fixture with Millwall.

Gordon said: “Darren is the latest player to sign up to play in the match, we have Bryan Gunn in goal and a whole team of former Canary players including Dion Dublin, Iwan Roberts, Ruel Fox, Darren Eadie and Jeremy Goss and Ipswich have announced a terrific line up from down the years including Simon Milton, John Wark and Jason Dozell.”

The Ipswich team will be managed by Town hero Kevin Beattie and City by the 1985 Milk Cup winning manager Ken Brown.

The match will also mark the 25th anniversary of city lifting the cup after famously beating Ipswich in the semi-final.

Gordon previously organised a City and Yarmouth Town legends game which drew a huge turn out and he is expecting another big crowd for this game.

He said: “The interest in this one is phenomenal - it's the local derby that's really caught peoples' imagination.

“As well as the match itself we will be having a kiddies' tournament, crossbar challenges and a real family fun day lined up so we hope as many people as possible from both sides of the border will come along to what will be a great afternoon.

“On the weekend of the game we will be holding another question of sport quiz in Legends Bar between City and Town players plus a party night with question and answer sessions with some of the players taking part.”

Tickets for the match, 10 adults, 5 under 16s, are available from Simpsons Skoda Suffolk Road; Pub on the Prom; David Mobbs Sports, Regent Street and Legends Lounge Bar on 07545034375.
