Police have released a picture of a choirmaster wanted for alleged child sex offences dating back to the 1970s.

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Barry Robert Brunton, 61, whose last known address was London Road, Downham Market, Norfolk.

A Hertfordshire Police spokesman said they wanted to speak to him in connection with an allegation of child sex offences which dates back to the 1970s.

She said: “Barry worked in Hertfordshire at the time the offence is believed to have taken place, including as a choir master in Bishop's Stortford, and various schools across the county.

“He is originally from the Isle of Wight but also has links to Ely and Norfolk.”

The spokesman said the 61-year-old was previously arrested in 2003 and released on police bail pending further inquiries, but failed to answer bail in early 2004.

A recent review of the crime had prompted yesterday's appeal, the police said.

PC Jane Keating, investigating, said: “We are asking for anybody who knows the whereabouts of this man, or has any information which might help in locating him, to call police immediately on 0845 33 00 222.”
