POLICE are still on the hunt for a former Hemsby Service Station employee, eight months after he disappeared following a card fraud in which £40,000 was stolen from over 200 bank accounts.

Police spokeswoman Suzanne Crannage said: “We are still trying to trace a former employee who commenced employment at the garage in early October and left without warning on December 2.”

A fraudster cloned customers debit cards using a PIN reading device and police have CCTV footage showing a former employee removing cash from the till shortly before station owner Mohan Raj found he was missing £2,000 in takings.

In January, DCI Steve Strong of Great Yarmouth police, said there was a possibility the missing man had left the country. Withdrawals of up to £850 were made from victims' accounts as far afield as Australia, India, South Africa, Morocco, Saudi Arabia. Germany, Malaysia and Thailand.

The fraud prompted Mr Raj to send out leaflets in the Hemsby area persuading customers to use his business again. He aimed to reassure them he would be extra cautious over future staff he employed.

Police would like to speak to a 28-year-old Indian man in connection with the card fraud.

Anyone with information in relation to the incident should phone Norfolk police on 0845 4564567.
