Staff at a nursing home in Great Yarmouth are celebrating after an inspection found it was a good place for its residents to stay under outstanding leadership there.

Eversley Nursing Home, in North Denes Road, was visited by the Care Quality Commission in November with a subsequent report giving it an overall good rating for its service, with the leadership section rated as outstanding.

The homes cares for up to 18 people and it specialises in providing palliative and end of life care.

In the report’s section that rated the service being led as outstanding it said: “The whole staff team understood and shared the, culture, vision and values of the service in its main objective to provide high quality care.

“The registered manager was an effective leader, demonstrating a compassionate and caring approach to their role.”

The report goes on to say: “We observed care and support and saw staff treated people with kindness, dignity and respect.

“Interactions were consistently positive and it was clear staff had developed good positive relationships with people and knew them well.

“We heard staff talking kindly and patiently to people which demonstrated they valued the people in their care.”

Home manager Ewa Kujawa said: “We are passionate about providing outstanding end-of-life care at Eversley. We will continue to provide it and hope that is recognised with an overall outstanding rating next time.”

The inspector observed that in the main lounge there was a memory tree with individual pictures hand drawn of residents who had passed away. “We never forget them,” Mrs Kujawa told the inspector.

The inspector noted that people were supported to eat sufficient amounts and maintain a balanced diet.

She said: “We observed that people could eat what they wanted and the cook prepared individual meals depending on what the person preferred to eat.”

The report notes that the home was “clean and tidy throughout” and “the premises were decorated attractively with lots of sensory items available”.

The last inspection was in September 2015, when the service was assessed with an overall rating as good. It is run by Kingsley Healthcare.
