SHE used to deliver the post, but now Iris Hall is the proud recipient of a birthday card from the Queen.

Mrs Hall enjoyed a right royal time celebrating her 100th birthday with friends and family in Hopton on Friday.

The occasion was savoured with a glass of her favourite tipple, brandy, which Mrs Hall credits as the secret of her long life.

Moving to Hopton as a girl, Mrs Hall worked in the family owned shop and post office, assisting father Ernest with mail deliveries in the village.

In 1933 she married Reginald Hall - the couple had no children and lived for several years in Lound.

During the war Mrs Hall worked as a kitchen assistant for the National Fire Service that was billeted at Hopton.

Reginald died in 1985 and Mrs Hall has been living at the Old Vicarage Care Home for the last ten years.

Care assistant Amy Chaplin said: “Iris is quite a quiet lady, because she is very deaf, but does not have many other health problems and was very excited about her party.”
