Speculation continues over whether there will be a white Christmas or not with forecasters say north Norfolk has the best chance of snow tomorrow..

Temperatures could drop as low as -8C inland and -1C to -2C at the coast in the early hours of Christmas morning, but the day itself is expected to be bright and dry, rather than snowy.

Chris Bell, forecaster at Weatherquest, based at the University of East Anglia, said: “It’s going to be dry for the most part and very cold. There’s a small chance we will continue to see the odd wintry shower in north Norfolk but it’s likely to be what we call snow grains and not enough to get people excited about a white Christmas.

“I think Christmas morning will be a really nice crisp morning, nice and sunny but with temperatures well below freezing.

“If we get a little bit of mist overnight it will make the tree all glisten and it could be a nice pretty Christmas morning.”

The forecast is similar for today and on Boxing Day it may be a little bit cloudier.

While some snow returned to parts of Norfolk yesterday causing a few problems with travel services, most of the county experienced warmer temperatures again with highs of 3C in Norwich and on the coast.

On the trains National Express East Anglia resumed a normal service both on their mainland London service and local services yesterday and will be ending their mainline service earlier than normal this evening, while East Midlands Trains also confirmed that it was operating a normal timetable yesterday.

First Capital Connect ran a reduced service yesterday which will continue today due to weather problems on their King’s Lynn to London King’s Cross.

Norwich Airport also confirmed that normal service continued yesterday with no flight delays or cancellations expected.

Burst and frozen pipes however continued to cause problems in the region.

Staff at the Albion Bath Co Ltd arrived at work on Wednesday at the Grade II listed premises on Guildhall Hill to find a major pipe had burst in the attic causing extensive flooding.

The water caused damage to top floor offices and Albion’s two floors of showroom which will now have to close until repair work can be carried out.

It is envisaged that the necessary work will be complete in January. However normal business will continue via their Colchester Head Office Showroom on 01206 794462.

The UEA Sportspark in Norwich also had problems.

A Sportspark spokesman said: “Due to the adverse weather conditions one of the pipes in the air intake system in the plant room at Sportspark burst earlier this week. Plumbers were called out and specialist contractors have now been contacted and the problem is being resolved. The burst pipe has not affected the Sportspark’s air control system and customers are not affected.”

The recent wintry weather has not caused misery for everyone though with Norfolk Snowsports Club taking full advantage of the added authenticity to their dry ski slope at Trowse.

The member-run ski and snowboard club have seen winter sports enthusiasts flock to their artificial slope in search of getting a small taste of the real thing.

Manager Deborah Anstee said: “The weather has been great for us, absolutely brilliant. We’ve had a lot of old members coming back and taking the opportunity while there is some snow on the slopes.”
