A Caister schoolgirl is revving up for a charity fundraising drive which aims to bring beetle mania to Fleggburgh - and raise money for a good cause close to her heart.

Having been bitten by the beetle drive bug while visiting relatives in Dorset Jade Roberts is focusing on building beasties not the mop-topped fab four with an event at Fleggburgh Village Hall.

Inspired by her great uncle and Great Yarmouth tot Riki Hall who are both responding well to treatment for leukaemia she hopes to raise money for leading blood cancer charity Leukaemia Research.

The eight year old Caister Middle School pupil has collected a raft of raffle prizes including tickets for the Time and Tide Museum, Thrigby Wildlife Gardens and Go Ape treetop adventure course in Thetford Forest in a bid to put the fun into fundraising.

Her mother Jennie Roberts, herself a seasoned fundraiser, said she was overseeing Jade's preparations ahead of the event on Wednesday July 23 at 7pm.

She said winning the under 10s section at the beetle drive in Dorset had fired her enthusiasm for organising one closer to home as a way of highlighting the disease which had affected two people close to her family.

Raffle donations still gratefully accepted and tickets priced £3 and £2 are available in advance or for 50p extra on the door. They are available from Playdays Nursery in Caister Community Centre, Beach Road, or from Jennie via 01493 728157.
