A RUSH of emergencies led to James Paget University Hospital in Gorleston being on black alert this week, meaning barely any beds were available.
Nick Coveney, director of nursing and patient services at the James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said today: “We have had a very busy week with a high level of emergency admissions. The hospital is currently on black alert status.
“Every action is being taken by ourselves and our partners to ensure that we are able to accommodate patients requiring emergency admission and to maintain, as far as practically possible, our urgent surgical admissions. We are managing our position very closely with the situation under constant review.”
No planned operations have been postponed so far this week.
The hospital was making use of escalation beds which means converting some of the day case beds to overnight beds for short stay admissions.
