The career of one of the Great Yarmouth borough’s biggest sporting success stories has been boosted by Buffaloes.
The Great Yarmouth Lodge of the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes has donated £555 to multi-record-breaking swimmer Jessica-Jane Applegate, of Burgh Castle.
The lodge, along with Buffaloes across Norfolk, have also pledged to financially support the 21-year-old right up until the Tokyo Paralympics in 2020.
Brian Cave, provincial grant primo of the Nelson’s Pride Lodge, said: “Jessica works incredibly hard and is so dedicated, so we were delighted to support her.”
Miss Applegate said: “I’ve had an incredible year coming back after surgery and a prolapsed disc. There was a strong possibility I’d have to retire in January when my funding was cut and thanks to local support I’ve been able to continue.
“I am really grateful to the Buffaloes and them promising to support me until Tokyo is a wonderful commitment from them.”
