A team of A level law students from East Norfolk Sixth Form College put their advocacy skills to the test at Norwich Crown Court in this year’s Bar Mock Trial competition.
The team spent the Autumn term preparing legal arguments on two cases – the first about a self-defence issue and the second involving an alleged case of witness intimidation.
Students divided themselves into various roles, including barristers, witnesses, ushers, clerks and jury members. Students then took to the stage against three other schools and colleges in the Eastern Region, judged by local barristers who had stepped into the role of judge for the day.
The experience gave students an invaluable insight into the art of advocacy and criminal law trial procedure and encourages them to develop competent team-work, legal research and communication skills.
