A 26-year-old man has been jailed for three years in connection with selling cocaine, cannabis and MDMA.

Liam Whittle, of Ives Way in Hopton, was sentenced on Friday (August 21) at Norwich Crown Court after pleading guilty to all charges at an earlier hearing.

The court heard that on September 18 last year officers from the Operation Moonshot East Team stopped a black Volkswagen Polo seen to be acting suspiciously on Middle Market Road in Great Yarmouth.

Whittle, who was the front seat passenger, was searched as a result of the stop and found to be in possession of one wrap of cocaine and approximately five grams of cannabis.

He was also in possession of two mobile phones and a set of scales.

Whittle was arrested at the scene under the misuse of drugs act and was taken to Great Yarmouth police station for questioning.

Following an investigation, officers discovered Whittle had been concerned in the supply of drugs for several months prior to his arrest.

He was subsequently charged with the following offences being concerned in the supply of cocaine, cannabis and MDMA, as well as possessing cannabis and cocaine.

No further action will be taken against the driver of the vehicle.

PC Steven Lee, from the Operation Moonshot East Team, said: “We, as a team, are really pleased with this robust sentencing as it reflects the seriousness of Whittle’s crimes.

“It also shows that if you are involved in the supply of drugs you will be arrested and dealt with accordingly.

“We won’t tolerate drug dealing and we will target those who decide to supply drugs on our streets and put the lives of others in danger.

“Whittle was extremely naive to involve himself in the supply of drugs and he will now pay the price,” the officer said.
