Lowestoft’s lifeboat was called to help the crew of a fishing boat that broke down in thick fog off the coast.

The 28-foot vessel had four anglers on board and was around half-a-mile north-east of the harbour entrance when its engine cut out.

Lowestoft RNLI lifeboat was called shortly after 5.10pm today (Sunday, May 20) to help.

RNLI fleet staff coxswain Martin Phillips said: “We found the angling boat about a half mile north-east of the harbour entrance.

“As we approached the craft we could see through the murk that a wind farm crew transfer vessel was standing by the stranded vessel until we arrived.

“A thick fog had descended along the coast and visibility was down to a few metres.”

The volunteer lifeboat crew connected a towline to the fishing vessel and brought it back safely to Lowestoft.

A coastguard rescue team was also there to help.
