A LORRY hit a railway bridge before ending up in a nearby driveway in North Walsham yesterday morning.

It happened at the Cromer Road bridge, which has been the victim of a number of similar incidents over the years, at about 8.45am.

After clipping the bridge, the driver of the lorry, which was carrying a mini digger, managed to steer the vehicle into a driveway to avoid further damage.

Fire crews from North Walsham and Aylsham attended and made the scene safe before leaving a Network Rail engineer to assess the bridge. He was able to reopen it by 9.45am.

No-one was injured but the crash caused minor disruption to trains.
