AS the clear-up of the Latitude Festival gets under way, Suffolk police revealed that 10 people were arrested during the event.

However, the high numbers of thefts reported at last year's festival dropped, with fewer than 10 thefts being reported so far, although police are still taking crime reports. The arrests were made in connection with theft, assault, driving and drugs offences.

Chief Supt Mark Cordell, east area commander, said: “At this stage we have only had a comparatively low level of crime reported to us - nowhere near the 100-plus incidents of theft from tents reported last year.

“It appears to have gone very well, with good co-operation between police, the organisers and security personnel, but we believe one of the key reasons for the decrease was work done by police community support officers (PCSOs) on the site on Thursday.

“A group of PCSOs visited the camp sites to distribute information to festival-goers giving them details of how to keep their items secure and encouraging them to sleep with their valuables inside their sleeping bags. This work, along with the efforts of officers targeting law-breakers en route to the site, have led to the prevention of offences and some good arrests.”
