MORE power is being put in the hands of local people with the launch this week of Great Yarmouth's Make it Happen programme.The occasion was marked by the opening of Neighbourhood House, a new community facility on Lichfield Road.
MORE power is being put in the hands of local people with the launch this week of Great Yarmouth's Make it Happen programme.
The occasion was marked by the opening of Neighbourhood House, a new community facility on Lichfield Road.
Yarmouth Mayor Michael Jeal cut the ribbon at the event attended by volunteers from scheme covering Cobholm, Southtown and Halfway House.
So far �10,000 has been allocated for community projects in the area ranging from tree planting to youth clubs, art projects and older people's activity groups.
A successful youth club has also been set up in Southtown helping to challenge some negative perceptions of teenagers in the area.
The Make It Happen logo was designed by Great Yarmouth College student and Vtalentyear volunteer Scott Smith.
Neighbourhood House provides information and access to a range of local services including regular police surgeries, housing and employment advice.
Neighbourhood manager Holly Notcutt said: “We have a very enthusiastic team of mainly young volunteers and the board includes nine residents - three from each area.
“So this is very much led by the community in achieving their collective neighbourhood priorities.”
Make It Happen is run by lead partner Great Yarmouth Borough Council with the police and NHS.
