A GREAT Yarmouth man who indecently touched a 14-year-old girl was given a suspended 52-week jail sentence and placed on the sex offenders' register for seven years.

Andrew Graham, 44, of Wellesley Road, Yarmouth admitted sexually touching a girl who cannot be named by court order.

On Friday Norwich Crown Court heard the assault came to light after Graham took an overdose and made admissions to hospital staff and police were informed.

Lori Tucker, prosecuting, said that when he was interviewed by police Graham admitted he had dreamed of assaulting a young girl before he carried out the offences and had tried to seek help for his problem.

Jailing him for 52 weeks, suspended for two years, Judge Paul Downes told him: “You were 44 and she was 14. Your abuse was illegitimate and quite unacceptable.”

He said fortunately the assault had not gone beyond touching otherwise his jail sentence would have been immediate.

He also put Graham on a two-year supervision order under which he must attend the Thames Valley sex offenders treatment programme.

Katherine Moore, mitigating said: “He sought help prior to the commission of these offences.”

She said he had not committed any offences of this kind before and was at low risk of re-offending.
