A MAN has admitted raping an 87-year-old in her Great Yarmouth home when he appeared at Norwich Crown Court today.Andrew Gibb, of no fixed abode, was charged with raping the grandmother in the St Peter's Road and Victoria Road area of Yarmouth on Easter Monday.

A 41 year old man this morning (Monday) admitted a charge raping of an elderly Great Yarmouth woman.

Andrew Gibb, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty at Norwich Crown Court to attacking an 87 year old woman in Yarmouth on Monday, March 24, at the victim's address in the area between Victoria Road and St Peter's Road.

He was arrested on Thursday, March 27.

He will remain in custody until his next hearing on June 20 when he will be sentenced at Norwich Crown Court.

Senior Investigating officer, Detective Inspector Stuart Armes, said: “The completion of this case is a great success and provides valuable reassurance to the local community that this offender has now been caught and will be serving a lengthy jail sentence.

“The investigation team worked very hard to catch this person and we are extremely pleased with the result. I'd also like to thank the public for their help in assisting with our investigation and the valuable help they gave in calling in with information regarding the case.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to remind people that these types of offences where an elderly person is attacked in their own home are extremely rare.”

A team of more than 20 detectives, from Yarmouth CID and Norfolk Constabulary's Major Investigation Team (MIT), were engaged in the case.
