THE neighbour of a Cobholm man who had admitted storing indecent images of children on his computer, smashed a window in his caravan and shouted abuse after bingeing on alcohol, a court heard.

Nicholas Lassman smashed the bathroom window of a caravan at the Tyrells Road caravan park on June 23.

Twelve days before the incident, the caravan's resident had been given a suspended prison sentence and placed on the sex offenders' register.

At Yarmouth Magistrates Court last Thursday Lassman, 46, admitted a charge of criminal damage and threatening behaviour and was fined £160 and ordered to pay £55 in costs.

The court heard that trouble flared on the evening of June 23 after Lassman, who had been drinking heavily throughout the day, began shouting abuse outside the caravan.

Prosecuting Elizabeth Houghton explained that a lone female paramedic was at the caravan seeing to his friend who had complained of having chest pains.

She said that the caravan resident went into the bathroom and the window was smashed.

“All occupants of the caravan were frightened. Lassman continued to shout outside the caravan and the paramedic was on her own and very scared.”

The court heard how the paramedic dialled 999 because she was “so scared” and that she stepped back from the windows in the caravan in fear of something else being thrown.

During a police interview Lassman, who lives on benefits, admitted he had been drinking heavily throughout the day with a friend whose son was going out to serve in Afghanistan with the Royal Marines.

He told police he had “heard different things” about the caravan's residents and had smashed the window with the palm of his hand.

Lassman, who is now living at Dorset Close, Yarmouth, represented himself and told magistrates he had a drinking problem which he was seeking help for.
