STEVEN Trudgill, 18, of no fixed address, was yesterday remanded in custody by Great Yarmouth magistrates to appear at Norwich Crown Court on December 16 charged with arson in connection with a garage blaze that led to the evacuation of 120 people from their homes.

Fire crews were called to Albert Road, Yarmouth, early on Friday and immediately ordered the mass evacuation when it emerged that a potentially explosive gas cylinder was on the workshop premises.

Residents were put up in the seafront Marina Centre for more than three hours while firefighters battled to stop the blaze spreading to neighbouring homes.
