THE South Broads RNLI lifeboat was called out on yesterday afternoon after Great Yarmouth Coastguard received reports of a male swimming in Lowestoft harbour, near the Asda supermarket.

Due to the nature of the area of harbour with large ships moving throughout the day an urgent response was requested and both the stations inshore lifeboat and truck responded to the call.

The 4.9m inshore lifeboat Lord Kitchener was launched at 2.45pm and headed towards Mutford lock while crew members on the truck met with police and coastguard personnel at Commercial Road.

Once on scene the lifeboat quickly recovered the persona from the water and took him to the Royal Norfolk & Suffolk Yacht Club where he was passed onto a waiting ambulance crew and the police.
