A teenager from Gorleston will be performing in the grand final of the BBC Young Musician 2018 competition tomorrow evening.

Maxim Calver, 18, has fought off talented young classical musicians from across the country to make the final three.

Maxim’s triumphant semi-final performance was broadcast last night on BBC Four and tomorrow’s final, which will take place at the Symphony Hall in Birmingham, will be broadcast at 7pm on BBC Four and 7.30pm on BBC Three.

Maxim started playing the cello when he was four-years-old before boarding at the Yehudi Menuhin School in Surrey when he was eight, where he has been a pupil for 10 years.

During this period, Maxim has performed as a soloist and a chamber musician at venues across the country.

In the final, he will perform Tchaikovsky’s Variations on a Rococo Theme, op. 33.

If Maxim wins, he will perform on the BBC Radio Three stage at BBC Music’s The Biggest Weekend in Coventry on May 28, and also at a BBC Young Musician 40th anniversary concert at the BBC Proms on July 15 at the Royal Albert Hall.
