THE Mayor's Civic Ball on Saturday night raised just under �2,000 from raffle tickets and auction prizes. The event was held at Gorleston's Ocean Room with more than 270 people attending.

The event was held at Gorleston's Ocean Room with more than 270 people attending.

The High Steward of Great Yarmouth, Michael Falcon, proposed the toast to the outgoing Mayor Tony Smith who is coming to the end of his year in office.

Guests enjoyed dancing to live band The Right Stuff and were treated to a special half hour of disco music by BBC Radio Norfolk's David Clayton who went back to his roots as he started off his career at the Ocean Room.

The Mayor's chosen charities, who will benefit from his year in office and the Civic Ball, are St Nicholas' Preservation Trust, Kingfisher Boxing Club and Winterton Marine Cadets.
