Plans to bring a medieval tower in Great Yarmouth back into use have received a £9,250 shot in the arm.
Great Yarmouth Borough Council’s economic development committee has agreed to provide the funds for a feasibility project looking at the possible future uses of the North West Tower, which stands by the River Bure by the town’s magistrates court.
The £9,250 council funding bid will be used to lever funds from the Architectural Fund Trust for its renovation.
The tower was last used as an office for a surveyors firm and has been vacant and under maintained since 2004 and is in a poor condition, which the borough council has said is likely to worsen.
The overall initial development work totals £23,000, which is match funded and has also seen the Great Yarmouth Preservation Trust pump in £2,500.
The overall application would be handled by the Great Yarmouth Preservation Trust.
