THE driver of a red Sherpa van and his accomplice head Great Yarmouth Borough Council's wanted list after they fly-tipped on the doorstep of a charity.

The Council's Environmental Health team was contacted after Councillor Michael Jeal caught the pair on CCTV dumping furniture and packaging at the doorway of First Move Furnishaid's premises in Artillery Square.

The footage shows the two men dumping a light green two-seater sofa and packaging from a fridge/freezer, on Saturday, February 9 at 4.20pm.

“This is not the first time this kind of thing has happened,” said Councillor Jeal. “We frequently find rubbish dumped at the entrance, and we then have to pay to have it removed.

“We can see the driver quite clearly on the video. He is aged between 40 and 60, of stocky build, medium height with greying hair.

“His companion was younger, of slim build, and again of medium height.

“Please will someone help us to catch these individuals. It's not fair to the people supported by this charity when we have to dip into our funds to pay for these people's rubbish to be dumped.

“The Sherpa van is quite distinctive so we are hoping that someone will be able to help us find these people,” said Environmental Ranger, Miguel Fish.

“It has wood panels fixed its side or the window panels have been covered. It also has an orange cylindrical hazard warning light on the roof.

“Unfortunately, we can't see the registration or we would already have a prosecution underway.

“This area of the town is subject to regular fly tipping and the residents would like us to put a stop to it.

“If anyone knows who the people with the red Sherpa van are, they can report either their names or the vehicle registration number anonymously on the Environmental Health Helpline 01493 846478.

“It could be that someone has unwittingly hired them to dispose of the furniture and could give us some idea of how to contact them.”

First Move Furnishaid refurbishes and provides furniture and white goods for people who are on benefits. It is open from 9am - 4pm Monday to Thursday, and 9am - 3pm on Friday.
