A MOTHER whose 15-year-old son was attacked by a Staffordshire terrier is urging dog owners to keep their pets on their leads.

Jordan Tovell, a pupil at Yarmouth High, was on a charity walk with his marine cadet group when he spotted three loose dogs at Hemsby dunes.

He tried to avoid them, but a brown Staffordshire terrier charged at him and sank its teeth into his leg.

“I just don’t want to remember it - seeing a great big dog running after me,” said Jordan. “The dog was on one side, then it came running after me from behind and took hold of my right leg. I kicked it off then carried on running. It left four puncture marks.”

He had been on a walk from Britannia Pier to Winterton with 901 Troop Marine Cadets to raise cash for a summer camp to France. And while he has completed the walk many times, he is now fearful of the route.

His mother Helen is angry the dogs were not on leads.

“You expect your children to be safe if they’re going to a public place,” she said. “I understand if they were somewhere they shouldn’t be but they’ve done the walk for years.”

Jordan had thankfully already had the relevant jabs.

A spokeswoman for the police confirmed they received a call at 11.15am on Saturday and are investigating. Police are appealing for a man who was seen to assist with their enquiries. He is in his early 60s, of a slim build, 5ft 7ins, with grey hair and a goatee beard.

The spokeswoman added: “The man did not act in a way that suggested he was responsible for the dogs.”

Call Norfolk police on 101.
