POLICE have warned motorists about car theft after a gold watch and mobile phone were among the items stolen from a Silver Peugeot 406 left unsecure in Burgh castle.

The theft happened between midnight and 3am on Sunday, May 23 as the owners slept in a tent next to the vehicle at Burgh Castle Marina.

Thieves gained access to the vehicle and stole several items including a Blackberry mobile phone, luggage, a black leather handbag and a Rotary gold watch.

Following the theft, police from the Southern Villages policing team are urging people to remove valuables from parked vehicles.

Motorists are being reminded to leave all vehicles locked, even if left for a minute, and make sure evidence of electrical items like a sat nav are not left on display.

People are also being asked to mark their valuables so that, if stolen, they can be more easily traced if recovered.

Anyone with information regarding the theft should contact the police on 0845 456 4567.
