A MUSICAL maestro inspired some young voices to really sing in sweet harmony.

The choir at Strabroke Community Primary School in Gorleston raised the rafters during a workshop with professional conductor David Lawrence last week. Pupils delivered a pitch perfect performance working with David who had travelled all the way from Birmingham.

The visit was part of a term's choral work called Taking the Stage that will culminate in a performance at the Royal Festival Hall in December. Choir members have been learning several songs including a specially commissioned piece of music that has never been performed before for the event.

Stradbroke is one of just six schools invited to take part in a musical workshop that includes the winners of the BBC1 TV series Last Choir Standing, Only Men Aloud. Head teacher Rosemary Winterton said: “David is wonderful and very inspiring conductor and choir master; he had an amazing rapport with the children despite having only just met them.”

David is Leader of City of Birmingham Young Voices and has been a judge at the BBC Choir of the Year Competition.
