Two young people from Great Yarmouth will represent the town at the Grand Final of a national competition to find tomorrow’s entrepreneurs.

Yarmouth was one of 10 UK towns selected to take part in one of Britain’s biggest regeneration challenges, TestTown 2015. The annual project run by Carnegie UK Trust, aims to create a new wave of responsible young entrepreneurs, lower unemployment and simultaneously boost local regeneration.

Yarmouth’s TestTown activity involved delivering a series of bite-size business training and coaching workshops to young musicians, performers and artists to provide them with the knowledge to turn their talents into business and revenue earning opportunities. The weekly workshops were held in cafés, shops and vacant units in the town centre and covered a variety of subjects including promoting, branding, recording, stage presence and songwriting.

Having completed the workshops, 16 year olds Jorro White and Ella Bruce were selected to represent Yarmouth at the national finals and share the prize of £350 of music equipment provided by Allens Music Centre in Yarmouth.

Cornelius Curtin of Allens said: “Supporting local musicians is something we feel strongly and we wish Jorro and Ella every success in the TestTown final.”

As part of their commitment to the town, Allens is to open a School of Music for the teaching of piano, organ, keyboard, brass and woodwind in the new year as they extend into the unit next door to their premises adjacent to Market Gates bus station.

Jorro aka J-Flaiva and Ella, who performs as Bell Rippington, are now planning their trip to Glasgow in February to join the other finalists in a week of activities being held being held to further assist them with their music ambitions culminating in two days of pop up trading and performing in Glasgow Salt market.

Participants will competing for a share of a £10,000 prize fund towards their future entrepreneur activities.
