NEW signage has been fitted throughout Great Yarmouth Railway station, National Express East Anglia (NXEA) say in a press release issued today.

The company adds that it “is continuing to champion improvements at Great Yarmouth station to enhance the station environment and customer facilities at the station.”

The news comes after complaints on the Letters pages of The Mercury, a Facebook petition and the organisation of an action day by local people fed up and embarrassed by the shabby state of the station.

The press release from NXEA adds that it has “also worked in partnership with Norfolk County Council to install a new and additional customer information screen situated at the alternative entrance / exit to the station, to provide more comprehensive access to information about train arrivals and departures at the station. This new customer information screen is now fully operational.

“Litter and vegetation clearance has also been taking place in recent weeks as part of the work to improve the overall appearance and environment at the station and the surrounding area.”

And the company adds a series of poster boards and new litter bin holders will shortly be fitted at the station, and a new recycling scheme has also been introduced to manage litter and waste collected at the station and on-trains.

James Steward, National Express East Anglia Area Manager for Great Yarmouth said: “We have more work planned over the coming weeks, but I am pleased with the progress that has so far been made in brightening-up the environment at Great Yarmouth station and the efforts made by the station team.

“I also continue to be encouraged by the enthusiasm of the local business people and stakeholders who are working with us on these projects.”
